The online discussion “Intellectual Property is not only…” was held by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ in cooperation with IP CLUB and the Faculty of Law of the State Academic University for the Humanities on April 27. The discussion was devoted to the World Intellectual Property Day. The event was moderated by Marina Rozhkova, Doctor of Law, President of IP CLUB, Advisor to the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the GAUGN and Chief Researcher of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Participants have exchanged views on the importance of intellectual property in the context of the modern development of digital technologies and how it manifests itself in various fields.
Sergey Kopylov, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, in his speech, noted the problematic points of intersection of the intellectual property sphere with the domain name domain.
Roman Lukyanov, Managing Partner of “Semenov&Pevzner”, outlined the problems of applying the norms of the current legislation, including the norms of the law on intellectual property rights, to the video game industry.
Dmitry Grigoriev, Director of the Legal Department of the European Media Group, drew attention to the peculiarities of the application of the legislation in the field of advertising.
In conclusion, Sergey Kopylov noted that the industry of intellectual property protection also grows together with the development of intellectual property rights. “I didn’t misspeak – today it is a huge industry. According to 2021 statistics, there are about 2 billion websites in the world - and this is a huge base for everyone involved in the protection of intellectual property. I think that the work of lawyers who specialize in the protection of intellectual property will never end!” - Sergey Kopylov concluded.
