“The multistakeholder model of Internet Governance is being tested of strength”

Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, addressed the XI International Safe Internet Forum, which took place on April 25 at the “Rossiya Segodnya” International Information Agency. The Forum was organized by the Safe Internet League (SIL) and the National Center for Helping for Children.

The Chairman of the Federation Council Committee of the Russian Federation Andrey Klishas, Deputy Head of Roskomnadzor Vadim Subbotin, Chairman of the Foundation Board of the National Monitoring Center for Assistance to Missing and Affected Children Elena Milskaya, Member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Information Society, Mass Media and Mass Communications Alexander Malkevich, President of the “Cribrum” Company Igor Ashmanov, First Deputy General Director of VK Holding Vladimir Gabrielyan , bloggers Mikhail Onufrienko and Yuri Podolyaka and other experts addressed the Forum.

Participants discussed the possibilities of ensuring Russia's digital sovereignty, the rules for safe behavior on the Internet, the regulation of the dissemination of destructive content, the application of new laws to combat fake news, and other topical issues.
Speaking at the plenary session, Andrey Vorobyev noted that recent events have shown that the Russian Internet industry has not built a system of duplication and redundancy of the entire domestic Internet infrastructure in vain.

“We see what kind of strength test our infrastructure is now undergoing with the entire multistakeholder model of Internet Governance that has evolved over the past decades. Some of the international and regional organizations on which the functioning of the World Wide Web depends have taken a technological and non-politicized position, but some have taken a different decision. Today, at the Forum site, we are discussing Russian approaches to Internet Governance, which, against the backdrop of what is happening on the Web, look quite balanced,” he added.

There was also an awards ceremony at the end of the plenary session for cybervolunteers for their professional approach to work, and to active citizenship and contribution to the fight against disinformation. Cybervolunteers from different regions of Russia – from Tambov to Yakutsk - received certificates of honor and gifts. Also, the Yunarmiya members, the winners of the Safe Internet contest who recorded videos with a story on how to recognize fakes on the Internet, received awards.
