On April 5, a special youth course held as part of preparations for RIGF 2022 has finished.
Though the forum was postponed until the fall, the special youth course took place as scheduled.
Out of the 118 applications submitted, the organizers selected 65 participants aged 17 to 36 from the cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Vladimir, Irkutsk, Tomsk, Kazan, Cheboksary, Simferopol, Donetsk, and Sukhum.
The course lasted 3.5 weeks and included six lectures from experts and practitioners in the sphere of internet governance. The participants studied internet governance, learned about all the intricacies and nuances of this process with the help of the speakers, and got a general idea of the subject in various sections of the forum.
This year’s lectures covered:
- The future of distributed ledger technology
- Digital cooperation and SDGs
- Countering abusive content
- Ecosystems regulation
- Approaches to international regulation of artificial intelligence
- Taxation of digital companies
Those involved in the course also took part in intermediate meetings to discuss the most topical issues raised by the experts. These discussions served as the basis for the ideas put forward by the participants for the youth message on the main topics of the RIGF. At the final meeting, these ideas were approved by consensus. There are plans to publish the youth message in the fall as part of the Russian Internet Governance Forum 2022.
As Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev said at the final meeting of the course, it is the youth who should become the driver of all internet development processes.
“We hope that you can use the knowledge you received at this special course to continue studying the topics that interest you and apply it at your future job,” he added.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ has taken part in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) since 2006. The Russian Internet Governance Forum (RIGF) took place for the first time in 2010, when the Russian platform for discussing internet governance was formed. RIGF brings together Russian and foreign experts to discuss their views, and encourages the internet community’s interest in the problems of internet development.
