Digital literacy is an important element of children's online safety

The VI All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Information Security and Children" was held on March 1-4. The enforcement of rights of the educational relations’ participants in the digital environment was the topic of the event this year.

On March 1, Olga Yakovleva, Head of the project department of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, made a presentation within the framework of the "Ensuring the right of the child to safe conditions for development and education in a real and virtual environment" round table. Olga spoke about digital literacy as an important element of children's safety on the Internet. She also presented the socio-educational project of the Coordination Center "Study the Internet & Govern It!". The purpose of the project is to increase the digital literacy of the participants.

“Teachers and parents should do their best to reduce the risks that children are exposed to on the Internet,” added Olga.

The round table was followed by the section “Internet without borders or the red lines of what is permitted: international problems of ensuring the information security of childhood”, which was moderated by Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.

“Over the past few days, the importance of the topics for discussion announced at our section has grown many times over. We all see what is happening now in the Internet space: fakes are actively spreading, attempts are being made to openly manipulate media platforms. Users should know how to distinguish reliable information from fake news, and it is extremely important that young people, as well as all users indeed, have critical thinking skills and not succumb to the influence of manipulators,” said Andrey.

The second day of the conference began with a plenary meeting held in the hall of the Academic Council of the Moscow Pedagogical State University. Andrey Vorobyev took part in the meeting. He also announced the start of registration for the VI All-Russian Family IT Marathon together with the rector of the Academy of Innovative Education and Development Olga Rubtsova. The Marathon was organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, PJSC Rostelecom and the Academy of Innovative Education and Development.
