Irina Danelia, Deputy Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, has been appointed Vice Chair of the Strategic and Operational Planning Standing Committee (SOPC) of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO). Andreas Musielak, board member of DENIC (.DE registry), has been appointed chair of the committee.
In recent years, Irina has been taking an active part in the activities of the SOPC and working groups on developing policies on country-code TLDs. In 2020, she was elected to the ccNSO Council.
The previous committee chair, Giovanni Seppia, who served as the External Relations Manager for EURid (.EU registry), and represented the European domain .EU in the ccNSO for many years, joined ICANN in December 2021 and hence resigned as SOPC chair.
“I would like to thank Giovanni Seppia for his outstanding contribution to the activities of the ccNSO and SOPC, as well as for the enormous amount of work he has done on behalf of the entire internet community for many years. Expanding the participation of national registries in ICANN’s strategic and operational planning processes is one of the committee’s main aims, which Giovanni successfully pursued during his term. I believe that we will continue achieving excellent results for the benefit of national registries and TLDs. I thank my colleagues for their trust,” Irina Danelia said, commenting on her appointment.
The Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) is a universally recognized platform that fosters communication and the exchange of knowledge and experience among country-code registries. The ccNSO is responsible for developing global policies on ccTLDs, including country-code IDNs, and presenting these policies to the ICANN Board. The development process is managed by the ccNSO Council, which consists of 18 members (15 are elected by the ccNSO members and three are appointed by the ICANN Nominating Committee). The ccNSO’s activities are mostly organized through working groups and committees, such as the Strategic and Operational Planning Standing Committee (SOPC) or the Technical Working Group. Heads and employees of all ccTLD registries can participate in them.
