On September 23, the Youth Council of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the International Cybersecurity School held a seminar “Topical Cybersecurity Issues.”

About 150 participants from Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, the US, Belarus, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan had registered for the seminar, including representatives of various international organizations and state bodies, such as the Council of Europe and Russian Foreign Ministry. The event was held in the hybrid format: in-person at the Institute of Topical International Problems of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy and online via Zoom.

The seminar was opened by Acting Rector, Deputy Rector for Academic Work of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy Andrey Danelyan; Deputy Rector for Scientific Work, Director of the Institute of Topical International Problems Oleg Karpovich; and Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev.

Leading experts from the International Telecommunication Union, Kaspersky Lab and the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ briefed the participants on the challenges that they had to face at international and regional levels.

Natalia Mochu, ITU Regional Director for CIS, delivered a presentation on the ITU’s role on addressing topics concerning cybercrime and presented the union’s initiatives in this field.

Kaspersky Lab Chief Expert Sergei Golovanov elaborated on the main cybersecurity incidents between 2020 and 2021, presented the latest statistics and showed true examples of how hackers really work.

Yevgeny Pankov, Special Projects Manager of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, spoke about the practice of the center’s cooperation with organizations that are competent in identifying abuse on the internet and presented the center’s projects aimed at ensuring cybersecurity: Domain Patrol and Netoscope.

In conclusion of the seminar, the experts answered questions from the participants during a discussion moderated by Arevik Martirosyan, research fellow at the Institute of Topical International Problems, author and head of the International Cybersecurity School, and Chair of the Coordination Center Youth Council Pavel Pozdnyakov.

“Of course, young people should get involved when it comes to addressing issues regarding cybercrime and security on the internet, because through this way we can lay the foundation for building a secure information environment. Our seminar was attended by speakers representing different groups of professional market players: international organizations, large private businesses, and the non-profit sector. Only by all of us teaming up together can we guarantee that progress will be achieved in the field of cybersecurity,” said Andrey Vorobyev.
