The preliminary program for the 14th International Conference for ccTLD registries and registrars of the CIS, Central and Eastern Europe is now available on the TLDCON 2021 website. The conference will take place online on September 15-16, 2021, organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and supported by the Technical Center of Internet (general partner) and MSK-IX.
Online participation will make it possible to bring together representatives of international organizations and national registries, prominent Russian and foreign tech experts, heads of top-level domain registries and registrars on one virtual platform.
The business program of the conference will open with Domain Industry News from the CIS, Eastern and Central Europe. The participants will review the recent developments. Representatives of international organizations and national registries, Russian and foreign tech experts, heads of top-level domain registries and registrars will speak in the tour-de-table format. They will make 5-10 minute presentations about the past year’s events and the most pressing and relevant issues the audience should be interested in.
The program will continue with the session on Marketing in the Domain Industry, where representatives of national registries and registrars will share initiatives to promote internationalized domains, talk about crisis marketing, show how YouTube can be used in marketing campaigns, and share their experience and discoveries from the industry’s second pandemic year. The speakers will include Maria Kolesnikova (Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ), Andrei Kuzmichev (RU-CENTER), Vadim Laptenok (hoster.by, Belarus) and Liana Galstyan (ISOC .AM, Armenia).
The session on International and National Trends in Internet Regulation will be devoted to the regulation of the digital environment that applies to the domain industry. The participants will discuss new cybersecurity measures, ICANN’s involvement in the discussions on the Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS2 Directive), the community’s contribution to developing legislation in several countries, Russia’s new legislation concerning the domain industry and many other issues. The speakers will include Natalia Kiseleva (Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ), Polina Malaya (CENTR), Nikita Maltsev (Gorodissky and Partners), Yekaterina Oleinik (Arzinger, Ukraine) and Anton Sergo (Internet and Law).
The second day of the conference will open with the session on Trust on the Internet and DNS Abuse. Those present will discuss new types of DNS threats and the countermeasures being developed by the domain community to prevent them. They will evaluate how effective the existing tools are at preventing domain abuse and identify the main trends in this area. The panel will include representatives from law enforcement agencies, domain registrars and other industry organizations, including Graeme Bunton (DNS Abuse Institute), Gavin Brown (CentralNic), Patrick Myles (CENTR), Brian Cimbolic (PIR) and others.
The participants in the Secondary Domains Market session will give an in-depth review of domain pricing mechanisms, analyze the statistics for the secondary market and discuss the market’s development trends. Svetlana Lobanova (Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ) will share a methodology for evaluating the value of a domain name as an intangible asset.
A tech discussion, New Technologies for the Domain Industry, will close the conference. Leading experts from the internet industry will speak about internet data and DOA, share the latest TLS statistics and show the connection between TLS certificates and the DNS system. ICANN representatives will offer recommendations, present the results of an RDAP study, and introduce the Hyperlocal project. The panel will include Andrey Kolesnikov (Internet of Things Association), Alexander Venedyukhin (TCI), Carlos Ganan and Roy Arends (ICANN OCTO) and Pavel Khramtsov (MSK-IX).
Registration for the conference will be open through September 10. Participation is free. In 2020, the conference was held online for the first time and gathered a record number of participants, 265 people from 30 countries. The two-day event included six exciting sessions that involved 40 speakers and discussions on the most relevant issues concerning the domain industry’s development and the internet in general.
