The Summer School on Internet Governance has concluded its preparatory selection stage, held on July 19-31. During two weeks, about 50 people took part in webinars, completed assignments, and successfully learned the basics of internet governance.
In particular, the participants studied the history of the internet and Runet as well as how the internet infrastructure works; discussed topics related to internet governance; learned about the participants in the numerous processes of the IG universe; and talked about approaches to IG. Experts from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, RAEC, ICANN and RIPE NCC helped with the training.
In August, during the main stage of the school, 40 participants will continue their studies as part of the vocational program organized by St. Petersburg State University together with the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. The rest will retain the status of audience members with access to recordings of the lectures.
At the main stage, the participants will be able to interact with internet governance experts and practitioners from St. Petersburg State University, Bonch-Bruevich St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications (SPbSUT), MGIMO University, Leiden University, Sparrow, the International Telecommunication Union, and the Center for Global IT Cooperation. In addition to lectures and discussion seminars, the participants will have individual and group tasks as well as team work to prepare for the final research project on a current international topic: the environmental agenda in internet governance. Moreover, the participants will compose an analytical essay on a topic of their choosing. The best pieces will be published on the Summer School’s website after August 23.
