On August 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy held the Internet Governance: First Forums and Models, a youth forum organized by the Youth Council of the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ and the School of International Cybersecurity.
At the forum, Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev spoke in detail about what is meant by internet governance and how this process originated and is developing today. Deputy Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Romanov shared his experience of participating in the very first global forums on internet governance and described the role of international organizations, including the United Nations, in this activity.
Leonid Todorov, Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD), explained what models of internet governance exist today, how the Chinese and Western approaches differ, and what makes the Russian approach unique.
After three lectures, a discussion session took place, during which invited experts answered questions from participants. The discussion was attended by Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev and ICANN Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Mikhail Anisimov, who spoke about ICANN’s role in and approach to internet governance.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Coordination Center received letters of gratitude and gifts from the Diplomatic Academy and the School of International Cybersecurity.
