The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ released the 12th edition of its annual report, Russian Domain Space 2020: Outcomes and Development Prospects. The report covers the most significant and relevant events of the past year in the Russian and global domain industry, as well provides complete information on domain market development.
“Last year brought its fair share of surprises. It may be a cliché at this point, but the world, including the domain industry, will never be the same. The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to make serious adjustments to our domain space development plans and event program. In-person meetings became impossible, and the internet underwent wonderful changes. That is why the new edition of our report, Russian Domain Space 2020: Outcomes and Development Prospects, opens with a section titled The Domain Space During the Pandemic, which reviews the previous year in Russia and other countries in terms of ccTLDs, new domains and IDNs,” Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev wrote in his introduction.
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the Russian ccTLDs .RU and .РФ managed to maintain their positions in the global ccTLD ranking. As of the end of 2020, as many as 4,965,460 domain names were registered in .RU, making it the fifth largest ccTLD and the eighth largest TLD. With 711,815 new domain registrations in 2020, its Cyrillic twin .РФ remains the largest Cyrillic domain among ccTLDs and the 20th largest European ccTLD.
The report includes data on Russian and foreign new TLDs, on domain growth around the globe and many other issues. Readers will also find extensive information on Russian accredited registrars and competent organizations as well as coverage of the online events marking the 10th anniversary of Russia’s Cyrillic ccTLD .РФ.
The report was based on the data from such projects as statdom.ru, netoscope.ru, доменныйпатруль.рф and several foreign sources.
