The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Russian Research Institute for the Development of Public Networks (RIPN), .SU registry, signed a memorandum of cooperation to counter abuse. The document was signed by Coordination Center Director Andrey Vorobyev and RIPN Director Kirill Izotov.
The memorandum envisages cooperation in countering the spread of abuse such as spam, phishing, child pornography, and botnets. The parties note they share the same approach on developing rules on countering abuse, attracting related Russian organizations including abuse experts and giving them access to issuing recommendations to domain registrars.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and RIPN have agreed to exchange experience and information on countering abuse, establish joint working groups and provide consultative assistance, as well as make efforts to involve other Russia-based registries in abuse-countering events.
“.SU is the oldest TLD in Russia and, in fact, another ccTLD. Ensuring safety in .SU is extremely important for the security of the entire Russian internet. The .SU domain registry has accumulated vast experience and knowledge in this area, and I know that the memorandum we signed will make Runet even more reliable and stable,” said Coordination Center Director Andrey Vorobyev.
“We believe that signing this memorandum of cooperation with the Coordination Center is timely and answers the challenges of today’s world. Today the question whether digital platforms and technologies should serve the public interest above all is as important as ever. Ensuring the security of the Russian internet sector and countering the spread of abuse are the most important elements of this task. We believe that today it is only possible to achieve positive results in this area by joining ranks. We are confident that cooperation and an exchange of experience will contribute to the successful work of our organizations,” said RIPN Director Kirill Izotov.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ cooperates with many ccTLD registries in security and domain zone development. For example, last year a Memorandum of Cooperation and Interaction on Counteracting and Preventing Violations on the Internet was signed between the Operative Analytical Center under the President of Belarus, .BY/.БЕЛ domain registry. Previously, memorandums of cooperation were signed between the registries of the Russian ccTLD .RU/РФ and the Vietnamese ccTLD .VN and the Chinese ccTLD .CN. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Cybersecurity with the Foundation for Assistance to Internet Infrastructure Development (FAITID), the registry of the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА domains.
