The Cambodian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications together with the registry of the .KH ccTLD and the Asia-Pacific Top Level Domain Name Association (APTLD) asked the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ to take part in developing a comprehensive plan to reform the national domain name registration system.
The Coordination Center agreed and sent Deputy Director Andrei Romanov to sit in with the working group, which also includes representatives of GoDaddy Registry and the registries of the Vietnamese (.VN, VNNIC) and Thai (.TH, THNIC) ccTLDs.
The first meeting of the working group took place in September. Goals and tasks related to reforming .KH as well as the participants’ cooperation principles were discussed.
It is expected that a document outlining the steps of the Cambodian ccTLD’s infrastructure upgrades will be developed by the end of 2020. Moreover, the working group will prepare recommendations on establishing a top-level IDN with letters from the alphabet of the kingdom’s official language, Khmer.
According to data from the first six months of 2020, there were a little over 1,400 domains registered in .KH.
