The national Digital Dictation on the Russian language, organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, ROCIT, the Russian Popular Front and RAEC with the expert support of the Total Dictation global educational event, will begin on Russian Language Day, June 6, and end on June 15.
The event will be held for the first time on the Digital Dictation website, and the organizers believe it will become one of the largest online tests of Russian. Every user will be able to take the test developed by the Philological Council of the Total Dictation in the special section of the website цифровойдиктант.рф at: https://russian.digitaldictation.ru/. It does not only assess Russian proficiency as the main tool to determine people’s cultural identity but also their communication skills. The test is serious and fun at the same time, which allows it to provide humor and lift traditional barriers.
The Digital Dictation has over 30 questions on dialectal expressions, main communication rules and modern phrasing, grammar and punctuation. Every Russian aged 14+ will be able to take the test. There is no time limit. The test will be available on June 6-15. A simple point scale is used to assess proficiency: 1 point is awarded for each correct answer. The participants will be able to see their results immediately in the test window and can also receive the results and the certificate following the dictation in their personal account. After completing the dictation, the participants will be able to do correction work in their personal accounts to see the main gaps in their knowledge and receive encouragement to further hone their skill.
“In the year when the Cyrillic domain .РФ marks its 10th anniversary, we do not only focus on technical issues but also on promoting the Russian language on the internet. .РФ is the largest Cyrillic domain in the world; it has become the emblem of the importance of Russian and the Cyrillic alphabet in the world. Popularizing Russian and Russian-language content on the internet is one of its important missions. And, of course, we would like everything on the .РФ websites to be written in good, beautiful Russian. I am sure that the Digital Dictation on the Russian language will help us with this, and users of the Runet will use better Russian when communicating online,” said Coordination Center Director Andrey Vorobyev about the launch of the Digital Dictation.
The Digital Dictation’s general results will be published on June 23. Data on regional engagement, public involvement, participant makeup and level of knowledge will show the general level of proficiency in Russian.
