According to a survey of registrations on the national domain names .RU and .РФ held by the Coordination Center, 82 domain names related to COVID-19 and measures to stop it in .RU and 8 in .РФ were registered this week; there were 90 in all, 25 percent less than the previous week which was 119 domain names.
For the overall observation period (January 2020 through May 2020), the list of domain names with the words corona, covid, pandemia, including the Russian versions, had 3,554 domain names in .RU and 793 domain names in .РФ. Overall, there are currently 4,347 “corona” domains on the Russian segment of the net.
The monitoring is designed to detect suspicious domain names and reduce their potential for harm with the help of a group of competent organizations. Kaspersky Lab, which has this status and is part of a Coordination Center project on research and technical cooperation called Netoscope, put the “data loss threat” flag on 1,862 coronavirus-related domains (1,564 in .RU and 298 in .РФ), and on 8 domains that claim they are related to payment benefits for families with children (6 in .РФ, 2 in .RU). Since the last review, the number of flagged domains has increased by 8.
