Fourth Family IT Marathon kicks off

The fourth National Family IT Marathon 2020 kicked off last weekend. Family teams – 5-11-graders and their parents, other relatives or close friends – are invited to participate. There will be two stages, and the competition will finish in May, on the International Day of Families.

The IT Marathon will help families test their digital literacy, improve their information technology skills and show off their creative thinking.

The participants in the first stage, which will take place on March 1 – April 20, 2020, will have to complete a creative assignment: develop an infographic on the topic “What I’ve learned about digital technologies thanks to the Explore the Internet & Govern It website.”

The second stage is an online tournament on the Explore the Internet & Govern It website. It will cover the following topics: domains, the domain industry, internet addressing systems, and the 25th anniversary of .RU (Runet). Preliminary registration is required: captains have until April 20 to register their teams. The tournament will be held on April 21–30.

The winners of the IT marathon will be determined by the total points they receive during the first and second stages. Leading teams will get certificates and valuable prizes, including a Bluetooth pocket speaker, a power bank, a table game, and useful souvenirs from the marathon’s organizers. Every captain and player in the second stage of the IT marathon will also get an online certificate of participation.

The rules of the marathon, deadlines and instructions for both stages can be found in the Provisions on the Organization of the Fourth National Family IT Marathon.

The marathon is organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. It is held together with the Innovative Education and Development Academy with the support of the Smart Internet Foundation.

The marathon is taking place for the fourth time as part of the state policy on protecting children from negative information and promoting good behaviour online. It aims at improving children’s and parents’ knowledge about the internet and general digital literacy as well as their IT skills.
