Local IT marathon takes place in Troitsk

On December 15, the results of the local IT marathon were announced at the Bytic New Educational Technologies Foundation in the Troitsk tech city. It is an individual IT competition for 1–11 graders. The event marked the Russian Informatics Day and the 25th anniversary of .RU.

The marathon was organized by the Bytic New Educational Technologies Foundation with the support of the Troitsk Administration and the Coordination Center for TLDs .RU/.РФ. The Smart Internet Foundation (.ДЕТИ) was the event’s information partner.

In all, six competitions were held in the following areas:

  • programming (to solve a problem using any programming language)
  • robotics (to put up a scheme, program an M-bot or an Arduino robot, and demonstrate the skills of remote robot controlling)
  • 3D modelling (to create a 3D model with and without a blueprint using Tinkercad, Fusion360, Inventor Autodesk, Blender, or Rhinoceros)
  • graphic design (creative task involving graphic editors)
  • site development (to make a webpage using HTML, CSS)
  • office program (to process information using Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Materials of the Coordination Center’s educational project “Explore the Internet & Govern It” were used to develop the tasks for the marathon.

Winners in all six competitions received medals, souvenirs and devices bearing the emblem of the 25th anniversary of .RU from Troitsk Mayor Vladimir Dudochkin and Director of the Coordination Center for TLDs .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev.

In his speech, Vladimir Dudochkin said in the first years of its existence the Bytic Foundation was called the Informatics and Professional Orientation Center of the branch of the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. The students were impressed that it was also the place where the first email address in the Soviet Union appeared in the late 1980s. “It was an excellent idea to hold an IT marathon to mark Informatics Day and .RU’s 25th anniversary here,” the mayor said.

Andrey Vorobyev added that Bytic would also mark its own, 35th, anniversary. “You are taking your first steps in exploring the huge world of informatics,” he said to the students. “The future is yours. The digital economy needs specialists who will move it forward.”

The highest possible points were given to 20 students out of almost 100 who performed the marathon tasks. Those who didn’t get winning places received participation certificates and were invited to the dinner afterwards.
