On December 12, the Pashkov House in Moscow hosted the 16th award ceremony for the 2019 Runet Prize, a national award for contributions to the development of the Russian segment of the net. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ was both the organizer of the prize and a partner of one of the categories.
While presenting the prize in the category For Contribution to the Development of the .RU Domain Zone, Coordination Center Director Andrey Vorobyev said: “There are currently almost 5 million domain names in .RU, and over 750,000 in .РФ. To a large extent, these numbers were achieved due to the efforts of our 50 accredited registrars. Registrars are the main driving force of the Runet, and we have three winners in this category. It was quite difficult to select them, because all of the registrars are making their contribution to the development and growth of the .RU national domain.”
The Reg.ru registrar won the prize for the largest number of registered domain names in .RU; RU-CENTER was awarded for the high availability of its services to users: this registrar has the largest number of branches and offices throughout Russia. The young registrar Beget won the prize for the fastest growth of new domain names in .RU.
Another category was devoted to the 25th anniversary of the .RU domain and the Runet itself. Prizes in the relevant category, 25RU: Special Category by the Organizing Committee for the 25th Anniversary of the Runet, were given to the TASS special project named The Runet’s 25th Anniversary; to the Social Film Foundation for the film Internet for All; and to the Far Eastern Federal University for assistance in the organizing and holding of the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum. The prizes were awarded by the Internet Development Institute chairman of the board, Sergei Petrov.
“We are happy that on the 25th anniversary of the .RU domain, the efforts of the Coordination Center and accredited registrars of .RU and .РФ, aimed at increasing the number of national domain zones and developing them as well as promoting the internet in Russia, were noted and praised at the Runet Prize. The film Internet for All, which was made by the Social Film Foundation at the request of the Coordination Center, has become a knockout, showing the influence of the internet on the people’s everyday lives from unexpected points of view,” said Andrey Vorobyev, commenting on the results of the award ceremony. “The organizing committee’s decision to present the award to the Far Eastern Federal University was a surprise, but the APrIGF forum was indeed fantastic and was praised by the international community. I congratulate all the winners of the Runet Prize for their well-deserved awards!”
