Competitions and workshops for RIW 2019 participants

The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ traditionally supports Russian Internet Week, and in 2019, the Coordination Center became a special partner of the forum. During the two days of Russian Internet Week 2019, the Coordination Center held many events for RIW participants and guests: quizzes, prize draws, workshops, meetings with partners and awards ceremonies.

On December 12 and 13, the Coordination Center’s booth was open, where accredited registrars were represented. Registrars and Coordination Center employees were holding contests and prize draws for visitors to RIW. Moreover, participants in the contests could get a route sheet and take part in a quest consisting of six questions and tasks from the registrars. After collecting six stamps on the route sheet, and thus successfully completing the quest, participants received not only gifts from the registrars, but also prizes from the Coordination Center marking the .RU domain’s anniversary. Next to the booth there was a photo zone dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the country-code domain, and anyone could take pictures. In addition, on the first day of RIW, the winners of the DOT Journalism contest were awarded at the Coordination Center’s booth.

On the second day of RIW 2019, the Coordination Center and its partner Online Patent organized a workshop called How to Protect Yourself from Copying on the Internet: FAQs that Marketers Ask Lawyers. Students learned how to protect a trademark and intellectual property in general on the net. Yevgeny Pankov, the Coordination Center’s special projects manager, and Maria Pavlova, the lead consultant at Online Patent, talked about how to protect a trademark from copying, what to do if a domain matching your company name is already registered, how to return a domain, and other topics. The speakers also answered the participants’ questions and discussed several real-life cases.

Also on December 13, a traditional Netoscope meeting took place, where the project participants discussed the results of the past year and outlined plans for the future. The Netoscope project is an informational and analytical resource and a platform for aggregating information about malicious resources in the top-level domains .RU, .РФ and .SU. Netoscope publishes the latest data on the spread of cyber threats, and the domain database makes it possible to exchange information about malicious activities. This helps to identify related threats and predict their occurrence. Today, 17 companies and organizations participate in the Netoscope project, including three companies that joined the project in 2019.

RIW 2019 is coming to an end. See you at the following events of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and its partners!
