On August 24, during a working visit by a delegation of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ to Vietnam, CCTLD signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the registries of Russian national domains (.RU and .РФ) and Vietnamese national domain (.VN). The memorandum was signed by CCTLD Director Andrey Vorobyev and VNNIC Director Tran Minh Tan.
The memorandum provides for sharing experience in the creation of domains in national languages, statistics, infrastructure and information security development, as well as joint work on international projects within the framework of the parties’ membership in industry organizations (ICANN, APTLD, etc.).
This is the second cooperation memorandum for the Coordination Center and VNNIC. The first was signed in 2016 when the Russian and Vietnamese registries agreed to work together in creating strategies for domain zone development, policies and regulations for domain name registration and information security, as well as exchanging information, experience and best practices in working out methods and developing new tools for processing statistical data, collecting and analyzing data on domain zone operations.
The first memorandum was supposed to expire in 2019. In May 2019, when a VNNIC delegation paid a working visit to Moscow, the parties decided to continue cooperation between top-level-domain administrators of Russia and Vietnam. They started making preparations for the signing of a new memorandum, which happened on August 24.
During the signing ceremony, VNNIC Director Tran Minh Tan noted that the Memorandum of Understanding between CCTLD and VNNIC is a logical extension of the friendship and long-term cooperation between Russia and Vietnam.”
“Signing the memorandum opens up vast opportunities for cooperating both directly and within various international groups and organizations. These days it is important for national domain registries to produce common approaches and a common policy in developing national domains. And we are delighted to work with Vietnam’s registry for its national domain, .VN. The Coordination Center raises the issue of cooperation between national registries on a regular basis. For example, in two weeks, Vilnius will host the 12th International Conference of TLD Administrators and Registrars from the CIS, Central and Eastern Europe where participants, among other things, will discuss cooperation between registries in different countries,” said CCTLD Director Andrey Vorobyev.
