On May 19-21, the 30th Russian Forum of Hosting Providers and Registrars, HostObzor, was held in the Leningrad Region. The forum was co-organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, with the center’s experts taking an active part in its work.
In 2019, the Runet marks an important date - 25 years of the Russian national domain .RU. The 30th HostObzor (XXX-XO) was one of the anniversary events. The forum participants talked about the.RU domain’s journey over the years, as many of the guests had been at the cradle of the internet in Russia.
The participants discussed a number of topics that concern today’s hosting providers, registrars and other internet business players. IP CLUB President Marina Rozhkova, a member of the Expert Council of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, and an expert at the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Internet Development Institute, spoke about the most recent intellectual property disputes. She gave a detailed analysis of the recommendations related to domain names that are set out in the Resolution of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on intellectual property, and answered participants’ questions.
Natalya Kiselyova, a lawyer for the Coordination Center, offered a case study on the antimonopoly proceedings against the CC TLD.RU/.РФ and the Technical Center of Internet. She also spoke about the FAS vs CC case, telling the whole story: what happened, and why the Coordination Center’s case was eventually supported.
The Coordination Center’s Youth Council was introduced at the 30th HostObzor. One of the youngest employees of the Coordination Center, Alexei Murzov, who is a member, told the audience about the Youth Council and what functions it performs, and invited young employees of hosting providers and registrars to take part in its work.
In conclusion, a roundtable was held to discuss the Registrars Committee’s work and other issues in the interaction between market participants. The roundtable, Prospects for the Registrars Committee of the CC TLD .RU/.РФ, was chaired by Deputy Head of the CC TLD .RU/.РФ Information Department Mikhail Anisimov and Chairman of the Registrars Committee Ilya Poyarkov. During the discussion, Yevgeny Pankov from the Coordination Center’s Department for Registrars and Users, spoke about how the committee’s work is viewed by the Coordination Center, and offered recommendations for its work prepared by the CC. Ilya Poyarkov shared plans for the Registrars Committee’s development and the first steps he outlined as its chairman.
