Russians to take Digital Dictation

On May 18, Moscow and other Russian cities will host Digital Dictation, Russia’s largest test of digital literacy. It will take place from May 18 to 24. On May 18, offline testing will take place, and then everyone will be able to take an online test at цифровойдиктант.рф or in a special mobile app during a week. The taking of dictation remotely will be available to residents of all Russian regions.

The dictation will comprise 30 questions developed with regard to various age groups: for teens (14-17 years of age) and adults (18+); they will be divided into three themed blocks. The first will be on basic computer literacy, that is, various devices and basic software. The second will cover the internet, social networks and online applications. The third block will be dedicated to cybersecurity, including personal data protection.

Digital Dictation is part of a series of events to mark the 25th anniversary of the Russian national domain .RU, which is marked this year. Many Russian users are taking part in the events planned for 2019.

“The groups of questions related to the internet, social networks and online apps will have questions directly related to the .RU domain. I am sure all participants will have no challenges with these questions. There is a reason that we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of .RU with so many educational projects about our national domain, such as 25.cctld.ru,” said Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev.

Participants in Digital Dictation will learn their results and the correct answers right after taking the test. “Russia is holding Digital Dictation for the first time and we cannot even imagine what the results will be. But I think that the testing of people’s skills and knowledge will tell us what issues are well-known to the public and which ones require further learning,” Vorobyev said.
