The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Social Cinema Foundation have launched a joint project to film a short socially themed movie called Internet for Everyone, which is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Russian .RU domain. The film will premiere in the fall of this year at several celebratory events to be held to mark the Runet anniversary.
Internet for Everyone is a compilation of short stories of people living in various parts of Russia. These stories showcase the changes in people’s lives since the introduction of the internet to Russia. The film will mainly focus on the fact that the internet and modern technology provide people with possibilities that were not available before.
Thus, the film will tell the story of a small-town girl who managed to enter the Sorbonne University remotely and is now taking on the world. Another story focuses on a small village where elderly women knit mittens decorated with traditional ornaments and sell them online via social networks. Yet another tells a story of a disabled programmer who took a chance, found remote work and continued doing what he loved most. The film will also show how the internet can help educate children diagnosed with Down syndrome or how to become involved with charity.
“The internet fundamentally changed our lives; now, with 25 years gone by, we might not even notice it now,” said Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. “But today, thanks to the global network, almost every individual can have a decent, inclusive life regardless of their place of residence, social status or state of health. One of the main achievements of the internet, and Runet in particular, is the creation of a great number of new possibilities for everyone; the internet has became a tremendous social elevator that anyone can use to become whomever they wish to be.”
“Today, the internet has infiltrated every part of our lives to the point where many have become wary of it,” said Mikhail Komlev, director, producer and president of the Social Cinema Foundation. “However, we would like to remind people that its introduction gave whole classes of society a chance for happiness. I believe that our collaborative social film can help many people believe in themselves and overcome any adversity. Let’s do good deeds together.
