Call for applications for the 2019 DOT Journalism contest kicks off

The call for applications for the seventh annual DOT Journalism contest for journalists writing about domains and other internet addressing systems opened on April 8, 2019. The DOT Journalism contest is organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC); the official registrar is REG.RU.

Materials eligible for submission include articles, opinion pieces, video and radio reports on the events in the domain industry and similar topics, published between October 1, 2018 and October 1, 2019.

The contest encourages journalists covering domain industry trends, facts and key events relating to the use of DNS and other internet addressing systems in their articles, analytical materials as well as video and radio reports. One of its important goals is to make the domain industry more popular among internet users, explain the benefits of owing a domain name and improve the writing and quality of publications about internet addressing systems and new technologies.

There are six major categories:

  • Best Domain Coverage (a series of publications by one author)
  • Domain Analytics (best analytical material)
  • Industry Life (reports on events and other industry highlights)
  • TV and Radio Domain Coverage (best TV or radio report)
  • Regions Are Everything (best regional press publication)
  • Life Outside Runet (best Russian-language material published outside Russia)

The Coordination Center will also award a special prize to the author of the best publication on the .RU domain and the history of Runet. This prize was established to mark the .RU domain’s 25th anniversary celebrated in 2019.

Any aspiring internet journalist, including school and college students and high school graduates under 18 years old, can participate as well: for these applicants there is a special category called Young Journalists. Their essays, articles and reports must be related to internet technology.

To enter, submit your application online on the contest’s website дот-журналистика.рф before October 1, 2019.

The list of contest jury members includes heads of press services at organizations involved in the domain industry, as well as professional journalists specializing in internet technology. Jury members can also nominate any other piece of journalism that was not submitted for participation but meets the contest criteria.

The results of the contest will be announced in November, during the Russian Interactive Week 2019 (RIW 2019). The winners will be awarded certificates and valuable prizes.

For questions concerning participation in the contest, please contact the organizing committee at dotjourn@cctld.ru.
