Over 11,000 students participated in Explore the Internet & Govern It! championship

Rostelecom company and the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ recently summed up the results of the 7th All-Russian Explore the Internet & Govern It! Online Championship. A total of 11,000 students registered to take part in the championship, with 2,800 of them joining in 440 school teams from all over Russia.

Within one hour, the participants were to complete assignments of varying complexities. This year, the assignments were dedicated to the main IT trends of 2018, as well as technology of the future: robotics, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain technology, virtual and augmented realities, telemedicine, and cybersecurity.

The students could gain additional points by completing extra assignments, such as hosting a pilot Explore the Internet & Govern It! online tournament in their schools or sharing tournament-related news on social networks or school or local media.

Prizes that are practical for studies or in life in general were powerful stimuli to win the championship. First place winners will be presented with convertible ACER laptops; runners-up will get Xiaomi Redmi 5A smartphones, while third place winners will receive Xiaomi Mi Band 3 smart trackers.

As per tradition, the championship was divided into individual and team events.

Individual event winners:

  • 1st place: Ilya Nikulchikov (Petergof, Leningrad Region)
  • 2nd place: Mikhail Pavlov (Moscow)
  • 3rd place: Tatyana Skvortsova (Mirny, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

Team event winners:

  • 1st place: Gimnazisty team, captain Olga Krasakova (Novokuibyshevsk, Samara Region)
  • 2nd place: ITX team, captain Elza Mustafina (Kirgiz-Miyaki, Republic of Bashkortostan)
  • 3rd place: Shustryaki iz Shimkus team (Cheboksary, Chuvashia)

All participants and team captains in the 7th All-Russian Explore the Internet & Govern It! Online Championship were awarded with certificates that are now available for printing from their championship’s official website accounts.

The list of championship partners includes Kaspersky Lab, EligoVision company, the Internet of Things Association, the New Technologies School, the Russian State Children’s Library, and the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC).

Explore the Internet & Govern It! is an educational program for school students, which has been carried out by Rostelecom and the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ since 2012. The goal is to enhance digital literacy and the quality of using information technology by novice internet users. This project is based on the educational website игра-интернет.рф, where users can learn more about various aspects of internet technologies via games. The project is also available as a mobile app and in quiz form. Each year, thousands of school students from all over Russia participate in this online championship.
