On November 29, 2018, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development (FAITID) – the registry of the .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА ccTLDs – signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in Cybersecurity. “This Memorandum aims to develop and strengthen cooperation between the Parties in countering the spread of illegal information, hereinafter called “abuse,” such as spam, phishing, child pornography and bot networks,” the memorandum reads.
At the opening of the 2018 Russian Internet Week in mid-November, Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev spoke about the trend of coordinating efforts in providing cybersecurity between registries in all the Russian domains. Now this trend has been reinforced with a document: the memorandum has been signed by four out of nine Russian ccTLD registries. In addition, the memorandum is open for other Russian registries to join.
Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev, who signed the memorandum, noted how important it was to coordinate efforts to prevent negative actions in the digital space. “We all understand that it is impossible to address all these threats alone, and in order to counter spam, phishing and illegal content effectively, we should unite. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ has acquired a lot of experience in fighting cyber threats: the institute of competent organizations, which includes large Russian and foreign companies specializing in information security, has been operating for six years. As of today, three Russian domains – .RU, .РФ and .SU – take part in the Netoscope project, and I hope this number will increase,” Andrey Vorobyev said.
