2018 DOT-Journalism contest results

On November 21, the first day of the Russian Internet Week 2018 (RIW 2018), an award ceremony was held for winners in the 2018 DOT-Journalism, the 6thannual contest for professional and aspiring journalists covering events in the domain industry and internet technology.

The material eligible for submission included articles, stories, analytical material, columns, and video- and radio reports issued between January 1 and October 1, 2018, and created by either one person or in collaboration.

Not only professionals were invited to participate, but also aspiring journalists – those aged under 18, studying in secondary and special secondary educational institutions. The young correspondents’ work focused on domain industry events and other relevant internet technology-related topics.

The jury included heads of domain industry-related organizations’ press services, plus professional journalists specializing in the sphere of internet technologies.

The results of the contest were announced on November 21, at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ’s stand at the Russian Internet Week.

Maria Nefyodova (Xakep.ru) was the winner in the Best Domain Coverage category. In the Best Article in Federal Publications, Yelena Chernenko and Roman Rozhkov (Kommersant newspaper) came first, with Yevgeniya Balenko (RBC) and Margarita Gerasyukova (Gazeta.ru) being the runners-up, taking the second and third place, respectively. The winners in other categories also included Svetlana Basharova (LIFE Politics) – Best Article in Online Media, Maria Andreyeva (COMNEWS) – Best Article in Industry Publication, Alexei Derik (Telesputnik) – Industrial Life, and Yuri Masanov (InformBURO, Kazakhstan) – Outside the Runet category. Roman Rozhkov from the Kommersant newspaper was also awarded the REG.RU company’s special prize for covering various aspects of the domain industry.

Other prizewinners included aspiring journalists from Moscow, Zelenograd, Naberezhnye Chelny, Surgut, Suna, Petrozavodsk, and the township of Platoshino in the Perm Territory.

The winners received certificates and valuable prizes from the contest’s organizers and partners. The full list of winners will soon be available on the contest’s official website.

The DOT-Journalism contest is held by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) with the support of the .ДЕТИ domain. Its official registrar is REG.RU. Contest partners include the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies (ROCIT), the New Technologies School project, Russian State Children’s Library, School Press News Agency, Yunpress, and the League of Young Journalists. The contest is aimed at encouraging journalists who write articles and analytical materials or compile video and radio reports covering domain industry trends, phenomena and key events relating to the use of DNS and other internet addressing systems.
