Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ cancels rule prohibiting simultaneous replacement of registrar and domain name administrator

On October 29, 2018, new editions of regulatory documents came into effect, approved by a decision of the Council of the Coordination Center of the National Internet Domain. The change affected the rules for registering domain names in the .RU and .РФ domains, “Procedures to be applied in case of domain name dispute” and “The procedure to be applied for a simultaneous handover of a significant number of domain names.”

As a result, the administrator and the domain name registrar can now be replaced simultaneously, i.e. the prior limitation has been canceled – until recently, the time interval between the replacement of the administrator and the registrar had to be at least 30 days.

“The rule prohibiting a simultaneous replacement of the domain registrar and administrator was introduced a long time ago,” said Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev. “It was used as an additional mechanism to prevent the potential takeover of a registered domain name. However, since then, the defense mechanisms have been significantly upgraded, so there is no need for such quarantine period. This restriction also significantly slowed down the registration of vacated domains, and we are confident that the changes in the rules will have a positive impact on the secondary market development.”
