The academic year and exams are over, but before going on vacation, the organizing committees of the social projects held by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ have awarded participants of various contests and showed their work to those who will participate in the future: school students and their teachers.
On June 1, a creative contest based on the Explore the Internet & Govern It! project came to an end. The participants tried their hand as scriptwriters and created an assignment for the Explore the Internet & Govern It! national contest on one of the following topics: AR/VR, robotics, telemedicine, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence and neural networks. Winners received prizes and certificates as well as an additional 1,000 points to their total score in the seventh Explore the Internet & Govern It! online championship that will be held throughout Russia this November.
On June 14, the final selection stage for participants of the New Technology School city project was held at the Moscow Center for the Technological Modernization of Education. Coordination Center specialists were invited to take part as experts. The 2017/18 finals included 30 Moscow schools whose directors and staff spoke on why their school must join the New Technology School.” They demonstrated the IT achievements of the schools as well as teachers and students, and shared their ambitious plans for the next academic year. The awards ceremony for the best 10 schools that got an opportunity to join the New Technology School was held at the VDNKh Smart City pavilion on June 19. Students and representatives of the schools were awarded with certificates, prizes and souvenirs from the Coordination Center.
On June 15, the Vernadsky State Geological Museum hosted the awards ceremony for the winners of IT Reporter, a Moscow contest of school media projects. The Coordination Center, the organizer of the DOT Journalism contest, was the event’s partner and gave a special award. The contest for IT reporters was divided into three subject-specific stages that took the entire year, with 96 schools participating and 16 of them winning in the end. The final categories are video, television interview, longread, news of the month, and reporting. The best projects are available at the contest’s media library.
On June 26, the 29th Advanced Information Technology in Education international conference was held in Troitsk (newly incorporated areas of Moscow). Andrei Vorobyev, the Coordination Center Director, spoke at the event about several social and educational projects supporting children’s safe navigation of the internet and presented the .ДЕТИ Cyrillic domain zone as well as the Positive Content contest for the best internet projects for children and teenagers and the DOT Journalism: Young Correspondents contest for aspiring internet journalists.
On June 3–30, the 7th Altai Electronic Week International Forum were held in Barnaul. The Coordination Center was the forum’s partner. During the session dedicated to educational platforms and mobile technology, the Coordination Center’s Project Manager Tatiana Novikova described the center’s projects aimed at educating beginning users and teaching them how to use information technology safely, in particular, the Explore the Internet & Govern It! project.
“With its social projects, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ takes care of educating young people, improving internet users’ skills and creating a comfortable internet environment. We do not only organize contests, but also carry out serious research and inform teachers and society about what we do; we go to the regions to get as many people as possible to coordinate with us in our social projects,” said the Coordination Center Director Andrei Vorobyev.
