On June 1, CENTR Jamboree 2018, which took place in Moscow for the first time, came to a close. Over 150 representatives of the European, Japanese, Canadian and New Zeland ccTLD registries forming part of CENTR (Council of European National TLD Registries) visited Moscow. For three days, they attended seminars and roundtable discussions on technical, legal and information security issues and held a joint section on marketing and administration as well as a number of training sessions and business games.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into force on May 25 was one of the most pressing issues of the conference. The new European legislation affected all the players on the domain market, who now have to collect information about their clients. Specialists of the Coordination Center held several discussions on the sidelines of CENTR Jamboree, where they shared their expertise in working with final users’ personal data in the context of the Russian legislation, which had been adopted much earlier.
Head of the Coordination Center Department of External Communications Maria Kolesnikova made a report on the specifics of users’ behavior while choosing a domain name on the Russian market. She presented the results of the Coordination Center’s survey where the types of users were analyzed as well as the information sources they use and the key factors influencing their decisions.
Invited Russian experts representing the Netoscope project participants and the Coordination Centers’ partner organizations spoke at the security section. Experts of Kaspersky Lab and Group-IB spoke about cyberthreats to DNS system and reviewed evolving cyberthreats and ways to counter them.
CENTR is an association of European registries of ccTLDs. As of today, it has 54 full and nine associated members who are responsible for over 80 percent of all registered domain names worldwide. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ joined CENTR in 2003. The Coordination Center’s Deputy Director Irina Daneliya has been a CENTR Board member for more than two years.
CENTR Jamboree is an annual conference. It is the largest CENTR event attended by specialists of ccTLD registries representing all areas of operation, from technical and infrastructure to legal and marketing.
