New module of the game “Explore Internet – Govern It” was released for the Safer Internet Week

Safer Internet Week with a focus on safe use of Internet technologies took place in Russia from 30 January until 6 February. International Safer Internet Day is celebrated on 6 February; therefore, Russian Safer Internet Week is associated with this event. The European Council established Safer Internet Day in 2004; however, since then it has made its way far beyond the Old World. In 2018 Safer Internet Day was celebrated in 130 countries already, including Russia.

Specifically for this event, Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ together with PAO Rostelecom, PJSC, launched a new game module of an educational project for new users “Study Internet – Govern It”. The new module focuses on phishing. As always, the game in this module is divided into five tournaments, in each of them participants study various aspects of the problem. Kaspersky Lab specialists prepared the script for this module.

Moreover, during the whole week Coordination Center organized its own events on the topic of safe Internet, while CC experts participated in national and regional conferences and round tables. For example, on 1 February Russian State Children’s Library organized an All-Russian videoconference called Ethics of Safe Behavior on the Internet: the Role and Possibilities of Libraries. At this conference Coordination Center specialists presented a report on the “DOT-journalism. Cub Reporters” contest dedicated to Internet safety from children’s point of view. Master-class on the quiz “Study Internet – Govern It” took place there as well. Over 900 people from 63 regions of Russia participated in the videoconference. In the end of the videoconference results of My Interesting Internet family competition on IT safety of children were announced. Coordination Center was one of the organizers of this contest.

On 5 February, Victoria Bunchuk, Coordination Center’s social projects manager, spoke at the Interregional Scientific and Practical Conference for Educators Generation Z: digital culture and security. She talked about the experience of stimulating and supporting creation of positive resources on the Internet for children and teenagers, giving the example of the competition of best websites “Positive Content”.

The discussion about the future of positive content continued on 6 February at the Cyber Security Forum 2018 – the final event of the Safer Internet Week. The Coordination Center experts moderated the session on positive content and also presented an overview of positive content criteria.

Another round table dedicated to the Week of IT security took place at the Dagestan branch of PAO Rostelecom, PJSC. The issue discussed was the Internet literacy as an element of pupils’ information culture. Winners of the online competition “Study Internet – Govern It” of 2017 and their mentors took part in the event. Acting Minister of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan Kamil Saidov, acting Deputy Minister of Press and Information of the Republic of Dagestan Sergey Snegiryev, Deputy Director of Dagestan Branch of PAO Rostelecom, PJSC Magomedsharip Ramazanov and others spoke at the round table. Organizers of the All-Russian online competition “Study Internet – Govern It” joined using videoconferencing, and during live transmission Coordination Center specialists summed up the results of the competition and also answered questions.

During the entire Safer Internet Week local tournament on Internet literacy “Study Internet – Govern It” took place at the Moscow educational complex №285. All tasks of the online competition were on IT security, in particular, protection against network threats and cyber criminals, confidentiality of data and safety on social networks. Pupils of 9th, 10th and 11th grades participated in the competition. Participants who hit the podium received anti-virus programs and souvenirs from the Coordination Center. A quiz on different facts from the history of network was organized for all those competitors who didn’t win.
