Joint CC and Online Patent service was presented to the Presidential Administration of Russia

On 27 January, a meeting focused on the issues of phishing and protection of trademarks on the Internet took place at the Presidential Administration of Russia. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, Russian Association of Internet Trade Companies and other interested parties.

During the session, Online Patent COO Alina Akinshina presented the new service, using which it is possible to discover matching domain names and trademarks and, therefore, avoid potential litigation over the domain name. This service was developed with the participation of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.

Sergey Kopylov, Deputy CEO of legal affairs of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, told the meeting participants about the study “Domain Names and Trademarks in Runet”, which details how domain names in country-code domain zones .RU and .РФ correspond to trademarks protected in Russia. This study was conducted together with Online Patent. Sergey Kopylov also mentioned the control mechanisms of domain names’ usage. He gave an example of CC’s cybersecurity project called Netoscope. He also talked about the cooperation with competent organizations, a practice developed by the CC. These are the organizations that together with CC and accredited registrars are working for the security of Russian domain space.
