Focusing on children’s security in the Internet of Things and protection of minors’ data

On December 14, a regular meeting of the working group on children’s information security, operating within the framework of the Public Council under the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, was held in the office of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. The meeting participants, which included representatives of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the .ДЕТИ domain registry, summarized the results of the outgoing year.

The participants discussed the current trends in providing information security for children, which were used to form the basis of the working group’s 2018 action plan. The working group will continue overseeing the process of passing a legislative initiative on rating information products on the internet, monitoring the effectiveness of the sectoral Information Security Charter and introducing new participants from the list of the leading Russian IT companies. Moreover, the group will finalize its top-priority action plan for the Decade of Childhood government program and in the sphere of state support of positive content as well.

In 2018, the working group is also planning to pay great attention to the issues of children’s security in the Internet of Things, to increase the protection of minors’ personal data, and to use internet technology to help children in difficult life situations.

The results of the group’s work in 2017 and its plans for 2018 will be presented at the meeting of the Public Council under the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, which will be held on December 19 in the Civic Chamber.
