Study of internet development trends presented at RIW 2017

The second day of RIW 2017 started with the section hosted by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, Runet Infrastructure: Statistics, Studies, Trends, dedicated to the current situation and development trends in Russian internet infrastructure. Representatives of the largest registries, hosting providers and website content management system producers, whose products and services are most popular with Russian users, spoke at this section. RU-CENTER Deputy Director General for Products Andrei Kuzmichyov, REG.RU Director for Developing Markets Dmitry Deniskin, 1C-Bitrix Director for Cloud Services Alexander Demidov and Deputy Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrei Romanov presented reports. The section was moderated by Deputy Head of the Coordination Center’s Information Service Mikhail Anisimov.

Participants also discussed the current situation on the domain market, which domain zones are most popular now, what the premium domains are, how cloud services are growing, and why Russian websites prefer hosting in Russia.

In his report, Andrei Romanov presented the first results of a comprehensive study of development trends in the Russian internet segment, carried out by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ together with the Higher School of Economics (HSE). The study is based on statistical data from various sources such as the Federal Registration Service, the Federal Taxation Service, the Ministry of Economic Development and other reliable organizations. The main task of the Coordination Center and the HSE is to check the methods of economic research on the Runet based on expert opinions and to add statistical data to them. Romanov provided a general assessment of the Runet’s development, discussed the main figures that characterize various aspects of the Russian internet segment and spoke about global trends in the development of the international internet: transformation of the labor market, growth of the industrial internet and telemedicine, and digitalization of the media sphere.
