The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and Online Patent have launched an online service to check if a domain name (both registered and potential) has been registered as a trademark in Russia. The search is conducted in the database of the Federal Registration Service. To use the new service, open the form on the Coordination Center website.
In accordance with the rules of domain name registration in .RU and .РФ, the user (domain administrator) is personally responsible for the choice of the domain name and potential trademark infringement, and bears the risk of losses related to such infringement. The preliminary check will allow administrators to find out whether there are trademarks with similar names and protect themselves from potential lawsuits and loss of the domain name.
“Disputes with copyright owners over trademark infringement are most common. We hope that the new service will help cut down on them because the preliminary check mitigates risks,” said Sergey Kopylov, Deputy CEO of legal affairs of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
