Specifics of work with domain names for Ural law students

On October 27, Dmitry Afanasyev, Legal Adviser at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, held a seminar for students at Ural State Law University. During the webinar, Dmitry Afanasyev described anti-pirate legislation and trademark protection on the internet as well as the blocks of websites with illegal content. Another theme of the webinar was the discussion of the principles and existing approaches to domain issues. Afanasyev described the judicial and pre-trial mechanisms of fighting illegal content and protecting intellectual property on the web, shared the Coordination Center’s experience in this field and, of course, spoke about the role of organizations responsible for order on the internet.

The webinar was held as part of the Current Issues of Public Law National Scientific Conference of Students and Young Academics held in Yekaterinburg. The conference is a part of Ural Law Week organized by Ural State Law University and the Sverdlovsk Regional Office of the Association of Russian Lawyers.

“The webinar attracted a large audience; students asked very different questions. It is evident that they are interested in trademark protection on the internet and website blocks, and they already know a lot. It is a pleasure to work with such an educated audience. I think we will continue with webinars at other Russian universities,” said Dmitry Afanasyev after the webinar.
