In September 2017, organizations interacting with the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ reported 575 domain names to accredited registrars seeking to stop their delegation. The statistics of violations, by malicious activity, over the reporting period revealed that the largest number of wrongdoings were related to spreading malware (439 reports), followed by phishing (136).
Acting on the reports, the registrars stopped delegation of 558 domain names. In the case of 17 domains, stopping the delegation was not necessary since the domain administrators (or hosting providers) promptly remedied the wrongdoings.
Currently, 548 domain names remain blocked (in ten cases delegation was resumed upon the request of the relevant watchdog after the issue behind the blocking was resolved).
Full report is available on the website of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ introduced the practice of interacting with organizations responsible for internet security monitoring in 2012. The companies report websites with unlawful content, cases of phishing, unauthorized access to information systems, and malware spread via domain names in the .RU/.РФ zones, to the Coordination Center and accredited domain name registrars. The registrars have the right to stop delegating domain names for such resources.
Currently, the Coordination Center cooperates with eight watchdog organizations, including Safe Internet League, Group-IB, Kaspersky Lab, RU-CENT, ROCIT, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, BI.Zone and the Bank of Russia. Any online user can report a domain name misuse via a hotline of one of these organizations. Measures will be taken immediately.
