Explore the Internet & Govern It! at the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students

Between October 14-22, Sochi is the host city of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students, during which the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ is presenting its educational project Explore the Internet & Govern It! at the stands of the festival’s official telecommunications partner, Rostelecom.

Festival guests can test their knowledge of the internet structure and operation, internet history over the years as well as its technology and modern culture. Any visitor can join in an open discussion program to talk about present and future digital reality trends with industry experts.

According to Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office and the head of the festival’s Russian Organizing Committee, the primary objectives of the festival’s educational agenda are to show young people what their future will be like and to provide an environment for a constructive dialogue and idea exchange in different areas.

“The festival’s participants are showing a lot of interest in the history and key aspects of internet governance. The questions of the quiz are given in Russian and English. In association with Rostelecom we tried to make it possible for a maximum number of the festival’s participants to check their knowledge through mini tournaments that are taking place at the media center nonstop,” said Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrei Vorobyev.

The 19th World Festival of Youth and Students has brought together over 25,000 young people from 180 countries. The festival has been held since 1947. The first such event was hosted by Prague. Throughout its history, there have been as yet 15 host countries, including Russia in 1957 as well as in 1985.
