Registrars receive 750 requests to remove domain names from delegation

In August 2017, competent organizations sent a total of 750 requests to remove domain names from delegation to registrars. The analysis of violating domains by type of detected malicious activity in the reporting period showed that the distribution of violating domains by type of malicious activity remained unchanged as compared to July 2017. Domain names associated with the spread of malicious software (477 requests) still top the list. Then come phishing resources (268 requests) and botnet controllers (5 requests).

During the reporting period, 734 domain names were removed from delegation at the request of competent organizations. Sixteen domain names were not blocked, as administrators quickly eliminated the problem, or the resource was previously blocked by the hosting provider. In 12 cases, delegation was reinstated at the request of a relevant competent organization after the violation was remedied. Currently, 722 domain names remain blocked.

The full report by competent organizations is available on the Coordination Center’s website.

The practice of interacting with organizations competent in determining internet violations was introduced by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ in 2012. These are companies that provide the Coordination Center and accredited domain name registrars with information about resources with illegal content, cases of phishing, unauthorized access to information systems and the spread of malicious programs using domain names in the .РФ and .RU zones. Registrars have the right to stop the delegation of domain names for such resources.

Today, eight competent organizations ‒ Safe Internet League, Group-IB, Kaspersky Lab, RU-CERT, ROCIT, Roskomnadzor, Bizon LLC and the Bank of Russia ‒ cooperate with the Coordination Center. Any internet user can report the inappropriate use of a domain name to the hotline of one of these organizations, and the measures will be taken immediately.
