Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrei Vorobyev took part in the joint Russian-Chinese forum, Moscow-Beijing: Trade, Economic and Cultural Cooperation on the Silk Road. The forum was held at the Rossiya Segodnya International Multimedia Press Center on September 18.
During the Economic Cooperation between Countries in Digital Age session, Andrei Vorobyev spoke about the importance of cooperation for stabilizing the critical information infrastructure and reaching transparent agreements in the sphere of intellectual property in the age of digital economy. Vorobyev also spoke about cooperation between the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and the Chinese administration agency CNNIC, as well as the Coordination Center’s preparation of the Russian-Chinese trade agreement in domain and trademark protection.
“We are highly experienced in cooperation with the Chinese national registry. Back in 2016, during the interdepartmental working group’s preparation of the trade agreement with China, we discussed the protection of Russian trademarks on Chinese territory and vice versa. We also discussed the issues of protection and the legal use of domain names in the national domain zones of Russia and China. Both countries have a set system of laws regulating legal relations in this area, and the recommendations that were developed back then formed the basis of those paragraphs of the current agreement that concern the use of domain names,” Vorobyev said.
The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and CNNIC signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the World Internet Conference in November 2014 held in China. In accordance with the terms of the Memorandum, the registries have been cooperating for the past three years, exchanging experience in building a stable and sustainable critical information infrastructure, creating domain names in national languages and also combating unlawful internet resources.
