The 72nd Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association’s meeting is taking place on September 14-15 in Tbilisi, with over 130 participants from various countries. The delegation of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ takes an active part in the work of different sessions and round table discussions.
The main items on the agenda are security in the domain space and on the internet in general, fighting illegal content, and data protection. The Coordination Center has a lot of experience in these fields, and its experts shared this experience with their colleagues. Inna Kugusheva, a Coordination Center lawyer, talked about the protection of personal data in the Russian domain segment during the legal session. Irina Daneliya, Deputy Director of the Coordination Center, gave a report during the round table discussion dedicated to domain seizures and takedowns and spoke about the Russian experience in pre-trial settlement and court practices in this field. Also Pavel Khramtsov, an MSK-IX expert, described how the DNS infrastructure supporting the domains .RU and .РФ works during the technical session on Anycast.
Andrei Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, commended the APTLD’s work: “During the last three years, the APTLD’s status and influence on the international internet management system has been constantly growing. The APTLD has become a large independent player and often engages in a dialogue of principle with ICANN management on the key issues on the internet and domain space management agenda, consistently advocating the interests of its members. The association is expanding its mandate while engaging its members in various projects for multilateral cooperation and effectively using a number of tools for developing the human resource and technical potential of its members (internships, webinars, practical projects on technical support and so on). In particular, it is with APTLD’s support that the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ has signed Memorandums of Cooperation with Chinese and Vietnamese registries. Now the Association is working on ways to implement a technical support project for the Tajik registry, to create a national domain in Cyrillic.”
The Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APLTD) unites over 50 national registries in the region, including the largest top level domain registries from Russia, China, India and other countries. The APLTD was founded in 1998. It is one of four regional associations of national top level domain registries.
The APLTD is an independent structure with its own budget based on the membership fees and management bodies. The Association’s mission is to promote partnership relations and to exchange experience and the best practices among the registries. The Association’s members have accumulated vast experience in developing national domain zones, advanced approaches to cybersecurity and providing the stability and sustainability of the national domain space management system, while using the internet for socio-economic development. The APTLD is actively cooperating with international Asian-Pacific institutions, including APEC, and organizations dealing with the global internet management system.
