Russian Civic Chamber discusses child safety on the internet

Hearings called Creating a Comfortable and Friendly Environment for Life Using Innovative Forms of Education, organized by the Academy of Innovative Education and Development with the support of the Civic Chamber’s Commission on Support of Family, Children and Motherhood, was held at the Russian Civic Chamber. Experts of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ took part in the event.

In his presentation, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrei Vorobyev emphasized that promoting information literacy is one of the top priorities of every internet organization in Russia. “The Coordination Center began this work back in 2009, during the Russian Safe Internet Year, when we became co-organizers of the first Positive Content competition for websites for children, teenagers and youth. The competition still draws thousands of participants, both from Russia and abroad. The Coordination Center also participated in creating a new separate internet space for children called the .ДЕТИ domain, which accumulates content that is safe for children,” Vorobyev said.

He also presented other Coordination Center projects, such as the Explore the Internet & Govern It! online game and study guides for teachers on protecting personal data on the internet. “The Explore the Internet & Govern It! project provides the participants with basic knowledge about the structure of the internet and its possibilities in a comprehensible interactive way. Using the tournament modules, the participants can also test their knowledge of technology. Every year, thousands of school students from all over the country participate in thematic school internet quizzes, tournaments, IT-marathons and the annual all-Russian online tournament. Our work allows us to raise the IT competence of not only children and teenagers, but also of adults who have just started using the internet. This helps improve the level of information security in the country,” Vorobyev noted.

Other leading experts made reports on children’s information security as well. They discussed pressing issues of improving security for children on the internet, talked about the experience of Moscow and other regions, and made plans for further cooperation.
