Explore the Internet & Govern It! is on the CENTR Award short list

The social and educational project of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ, Explore the Internet & Govern It! has been put on the short list of the CENTR Award in the Greater Online Good Category. The annual CENTR Award will take place for the third time. It is aimed at promoting projects, teams and individuals who are engaged in registering top-level domains and who have the biggest influence on the development of the domain network in Europe and the world. Only CENTR members can apply for the contest.

In 2017, the CENTR Award will be given in 10 categories. Forty-five registries of national TLDs, members of the CENTR, have submitted their applications. The Explore the Internet & Govern It! project will compete in the category of best initiative in the area of corporate social responsibility, such as environmental protection, eliminating the digital divide, education and promoting national online resources.

“We are happy that our beloved project, Explore the Internet & Govern It!, has reached the European level,” said Coordination Center Director Andrey Vorobyev. “We plan to keep working on the English-language version and to involve children from other countries in the competition. This task has become easier with our being named to the CENTR Award short list. Our contest will become known in many counties, and I hope, will be interesting to school students.”

The jury is comprised of representatives from governmental and public organizations, businesses, global and regional international organizations (such as IANA, APTLD, AfNIC, ccNSO and others). The award ceremony will take place on October 3 in Brussels.

Explore the Internet & Govern It! is a social and educational project for school students developed by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. In includes an educational module, which offers information about the structure, capabilities and functions of the internet in a simple and fun way, and the annual national online championships for school students. In 2017, the championships will be held for the sixth time.

The Council of European National TLD Registries (CENTR) is a European association of national registries. CENTR plays an important role in representing the interests of European administrations of national TLDs at the international level. The Coordination Center is a member of CENTR and takes part in its annual conference and seminars to develop joint approaches to various issues of national registries.
