On May 24, the Council of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ had a regular meeting to consider a draft document outlining its current priorities. The participants had fundamental disagreements that were laid out in a protocol to the general meeting of the Coordination Center founders.
The next issue on the agenda was the further development of the Netoscope project. Head of the project, Pavel Khramtsov, delivered a report on its progress. He said the major aim of this science and technical cooperation project is to make domain registration and maintenance more efficient and to prevent illegal use of the internet and domain registration. He also called for improving project costs management.
In conclusion, the council revisited the previously taken decision to raise fees for registration, extension and transfer of RU/.РФ domains in view of registrars’ appeal to the council on this issue. Coordination Center Director Andrei Vorobyev said the council has advised that services fees be revised in the future. “The cost of domain names had remained unchanged for years, and the one-time 70 percent price hike proved rather sensitive for many market players. Council members have recommended that prices be raised gradually in the future, with due consideration for inflation on the one hand and minimizing their impact on the sector on the other," he said.
Council members also approved related party transactions, discussed candidates for the audit commission and other issues.
