Educational projects of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU bear fruit

On April 25, the 2nd Big Media Communication Forum kicked off as part of the Sviaz 2017 Information and Communications Technology Exhibition, organized by the Expocentre and the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC). The event is supported by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, the Institute of Internet Development (IIC), RSpectr, the Media-Communication Union, the Otechestvenny Soft (National Soft) Software Developers’ Association, the ROCIT, the Documentary Electronic Communication Association and other players of the Russian internet industry. Over the three days of work, the forum will bring together several thousand professionals and representatives of the internet industry and related sectors.

Andrey Vorobyev, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD. RU, spoke at the plenary meeting. He talked about the Center’s activity to develop the Russian segment of the internet, about creating new socially significant projects for network users, and developing the Russian national domains .RU and .РФ. “The Coordination Center does a lot to ensure information security and increase the level of digital literacy among the users. For this purpose, we support various social and educational projects and annually launch new ones. The Big Media Communication Forum, which brings together representatives of telecommunications operators and major media holdings, gives us a unique opportunity to involve the best Russian experts in our projects,” he said.

The forum included the Russian Domains meeting chaired by Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev and Deputy Head of the Center’s Information Department Mikhail Anisimov. The event continued the Domain Trends in Russia and the World meeting held as part of the Russian internet Forum RIF+KIB 2017 last week. The participants discussed developing the domain name registration markets in Russia and around the world, the influence of new TLDs on this market, technical and technological innovations in the domain business and the Coordination Center’s social projects.

Vorobyev presented detailed statistics on the development of the Russian domain market and spoke about the progress made in introducing Cyrillic e-mail in the .РФ domain. This topic was continued by Igor Lidin (Technical Center of Internet), who spoke about the development of support for non-Latin characters in popular internet services. The second representative of the TCI, Alexander Venedyukhin, devoted his speech to the security of Russian domains and the prospects for developing the TLS protocol.

Dmitry Deniskin (REG.RU) and Andrei Kuzmichev (RU-CENTER) discussed new domains. According to Kuzmichev, one of the major trends in developing new TLDs is the appearance of premium domains. For example, the most expensive domain sold by RU-CENTER was in the .CLUB zone. The buyer paid 273,000 rubles for it. Viktoria Bunchuk (Smart Internet Foundation) spoke about Russia’s practice of applying new TLDs using the example of the domain .ДЕТИ. Tatyana Novikova (Coordination Center) reported on social and educational projects of the Coordination Center for TLD. RU.

“The domain issue is a narrow professional field, but today we can see representatives of companies that have nothing to do with the domain business. They didn’t come just to listen to speeches, but asked questions, and it was clear that they’re in-the-know. Therefore, we can say with confidence that our educational projects and the promotion of Russian national domain in the public bears fruit,” Vorobyev said at the end of the meeting.
