The final events of the Moscow IT Marathon took place on April 18, 2017. Traditionally, the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ is the marathon partner. Preliminary rounds of the marathon were held during the academic year with the participation of 112 school teams from all areas of Moscow. Four teams reached the finals.
In the finals, the teams were supposed to show off both their computer skills and their knowledge of the structure and history of the World Wide Web. Children disassembled and assembled a computer, set up a local network and then competed in IT literacy in the Explore The Internet & Govern It! online competition. The competition project is implemented by the Coordination Center together with Rostelecom.
“We are glad that our educational project has a practical use at schools. It helps children learn and improve their skills in the use of internet technologies,” said Denis Zhilin, head of social and public projects at the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.
The team of Gymnasium No. 1272 won gold in the 2017 IT marathon; in second place was the team of School No. 1421; and Gymnasium No. 1811 came in third. Recognition awards were given to the team of Gymnasium No. 625. Alexandra Sokolova, Denis Marudko, Vladislav Masly, Stepan Chupikin and Artemy Veshkin won the individual events. Two participants, Ivan Serov and Rustam Abdullayev, were invited to take part in a school academic competition at the MEPhI National Research Nuclear University.
The IT marathon is a series of tournaments held annually by the Moscow Department of Information Technology in order to promote school students’ knowledge of information technology and the safe use of the internet. The marathon is also aimed at building children’s interest in choosing a future profession. The marathon is organized for 5th-11th graders by the School of New Technology with the participation of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ. Cisco and MEPhI are the event’s partners.
The next IT Marathon will start in October 2017.
