Russian Association of Networks and Services’ conference singles out Coordination Center for its internet development efforts

On March 28 - 29, the Russian Association for Networks and Services will hold a conference, Providing Confidence and Security in IT Use. The Coordination Center will serve as the event’s partner, while its experts will take part in the event’s meetings and roundtable discussions.

In his opening remarks, chairman of the association’s executive committee Arkady Kremer said that the Coordination Center plays a big role in the development of the internet in Russia. He stressed the importance of the center’s efforts to develop national domains, create a safe online environment and lend its support to self-regulation. On the first day of the conference, Director of the Coordination Center Andrey Vorobyev spoke at the roundtable discussion, Developing a National System of Managing the Russian Segment of the Internet. Yelena Voronina, General Director of MSK-IX, moderated the event, which was joined by Executive Director of the Russian Association of Networks and Services Alexander Ivanyuk, expert of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Alexei Krymin, Chief Operating Officer at KOMKOR Mikhail Medrish, General Director of the Technical Center of Internet Alexei Platonov and Vice President of ICANN Mikhail Yakushev.

Andrey Vorobyev described how the Coordination Center promotes the development of self-regulation, primarily in the field of cybersecurity. He spoke about the successful experience of applying self-regulation mechanisms when combating phishing attacks and the spread of malware. He also spoke about the.RU / .РФ Domain Coordination Center's cooperation with organizations specializing in the prevention of the illegal use of domain names. "Many effective mechanisms of sector self-regulation deserve further development through legislation," he said. He noted that the Coordination Center is among those top-level domain registries that pay great attention to making the domain zone safer. The Coordination Center cooperates a lot with both registries on a horizontal level and with international organizations on a vertical level.

“We are in close contact with national registries, beginning with CENTR in Europe to APTLD in Asia. It enables us to use our colleagues’ varying levels of experience to find balanced solutions that would work for all stakeholders in development of the internet. We have also had interesting cooperation with the ITU. We are rethinking our participation toward making the views of the Russian internet community known in that organization,” Andrey Vorobyev said.

He also spoke about attracting young people to internet governance, which will be one of the topics at the upcoming Russian Internet Governance Forum, taking place on April 7 in Innopolis, Tatarstan.

March 29, the second day of the conference, will see a roundtable discussion, Creating a Culture of Information Security, that will be joined by Head of Social Projects at the Coordination Center Denis Zhilin.
