Information security a priority for Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ

On February 7, Moscow hosted the Cyber Security Forum 2017 (CSF 2017), a major cyber security event in Russia and part of the Safer Internet Week, an official Russian series of events held as part of the globally celebrated Safer Internet Day. The Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ (CC for TLD .RU/.РФ) is an official partner for CSF 2017.

CC for TLD .RU/.РФ Director Andrey Vorobyev spoke at the forum’s opening ceremony about the main cyber security trends last year. “First, I would like to point out the growing involvement of government agencies in internet governance initiatives. The second trend is the increased attention by government agencies, civil society and the business community to digital literacy and efforts against illegal content. Content governance has also been addressed increasingly at international platforms such as ICANN. And the third obvious trend is for the enhanced role of self-governance and active involvement of government agencies in these efforts. Last year the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ signed agreements on assigning the status of competent organizations to the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) and the Central Bank of Russia, which has created the necessary tools to counter fraudulent resources,” Vorobyev said.

Delegates from the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ attended the forum’s meetings. Deputy Director Sergei Kopylov attended a session on the history and current trends of enhancing information security governance, where he spoke about the Coordination Center’s activities in the regulation of communication infrastructure and laws on information security.

Mikhail Anisimov, deputy head of the Coordination Center’s Information Service, moderated the session titled Age 4.0: The Internet of Things, Big Data, and Russia’s Digital Security and Sovereignty. Session participants discussed the key elements of Russia’s digital security and sovereignty, critical infrastructure security, the cyber security aspects of the import substitution program, and the development of the Internet of Things and domain space in Russia.

Denis Zhilin, head of social and public projects at the Coordination Center, spoke at the session devoted to content security. His report dealt with a system of monitoring fraudulent activity based on the experience of the .ДЕТИ top-level domain. He said that measures should be taken to promote the development of online resources for children and teens and to boost the creation of safe, quality sites.

Zhilin said that a permanent monitoring system of the .ДЕТИ domain helps identify inappropriate content. The response service experts receive and analyze automated reports from the monitoring system, and in case of confirmed reports send a violation notification to the resource owner. “To date, the .ДЕТИ domain is one of the cleanest and safest in the world. We are proud of this achievement and urge all those who live and work for the benefit of our children to use it,” Denis Zhilin said.
