Central Bank’s FinCERT unit to combat phishing

The Bank’s FinCERT unit, a special division set up in 2015 to notify Russian banks of security incidents in the financial sector, will be able to use the services of registrars that are accredited in the .RU and .РФ zones to cut short malicious site operations. FinCERT will focus on combating the use of the .RU and .РФ domain names for the purpose of phishing in the lending and financial sectors, in particular fraudulent bank and online payment services and money transfer systems.

Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ Director Andrey Vorobyev pointed to the importance of cooperation in combating phishing. He said: “Phishing sites are among the most dangerous resources for end users. These sites are used for ticket, bank card and telephone account fraud, to steal personal data and much more. The most damaging phishing sites pose as popular bank and online payment services. The fight against this will be FinCERT’s priority under this agreement.”
