Coordination Center meets with domain name registrars

On November 15 the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ held a working meeting with accredited registrars of .RU and .РФ domain names. During the first part of the event, heads of legal and customer service departments of eight accredited registrars met with representatives of Roskomnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media). The discussion focused on registrars’ work with the personal data of users.

The participants considered the issue of cooperation between personal data operators and Roskomnadzor. They discussed all aspects of this cooperation – from personal data processing notifications to inquiries into individual cases linked with client services. Registrars received comprehensive information on deadlines for such notifications and the mandatory obligation to submit them. The participants also reviewed the rules on how to store and process personal data and how to end its processing at the request of data subjects, be they Russian citizens or not. Registrars asked a Roskomnadzor representative questions on addressing complaints from data subjects and providing extracts on personal data operators, and discussed the nuances of operators’ work with a list of data subjects.

During the second part of the meeting registrars met with employees of the Coordination Center, the Technical Center of Internet (TCI) and the AMT Group to discuss a number of practical issues linked with the imposition and removal of pre-trial and judicial restraints on domain name-related actions.

“Such meetings allow registrars to get first-hand answers on the most pressing issues and reduce economic and legal risks in their activities. We are going to continue this practice and make such meetings regular,” said Georgy Georgiyevsky, head of the Coordination Center’s department on work with registrars.
