Even third-graders know about cybersecurity

The third day of RIW2016 included the Generation NEXT educational conference, devoted to the development of information technology in the education system. The conference was attended by teachers, who shared their experiences using new technologies in lessons, IT-experts with educational projects, government officials, students and their parents.

Director of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ Andrey Vorobyev spoke at the conference. He talked about the center’s key projects to increase media literacy and improve the safety of children and teens in the internet environment, including the domain zone .ДЕТИ, the online championship Learn the Internet and Manage It!, the Positive Content competition and the like. Vorobyev paid particular attention to blocking inappropriate content and personal data protection. “Some providers get quite cute in how they block unwanted content. They block websites but place a special guide on the stub page explaining how to bypass blocks. Even children who participated in today’s conference don’t think that is good. I believe that such an approach to blocking is unacceptable, and we should fight guides for bypassing blocks,” he said.

Vorobyev also spoke about the center’s participation in the Unified Internet Security Lesson. On November 2, he delivered a lecture on it at School No. 2103 in the Yasenevo District and was impressed with the level of digital literacy of students. “I often give lectures to seniors and university students, but it was my first lecture to third- and fourth-graders. I didn’t expect them to know so much about information security! I thank my colleagues from the Internet Development Institute and the School of New Technologies for choosing this wonderful school with smart students for my lecture,” he said after the lecture.

The Unified Internet Security Lesson is a global educational event held at the initiative of the Federation Council and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science. This year, this lesson was held in over 60 Russian regions, including at colleges and group homes for children.
